Cinque Terre is located along the northern coast of Italy on
the Ligurian Sea. Cinque Terre is a
collective of five fishing villages that developed along a very rugged section
of the coastline. Founded in the 11th
century these villages remained isolated until a train was built in the early
1900 to connect Genoa and a military arsenal
in la Speczia. My postings for each village can be reached here:

This whole area is often referred
to as the “Italian Riviera” and with good cause. Colorful buildings, great restaurants, and
plentiful sunshine all contribute to making this area a tourist
destination. The greater area
encompassing some even smaller villages is designated as the Cinque Terre
National Park and is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Damaged in 2011 by severe storms that caused
flooding and mudslides, the villages have recovered as you will see in the photos
that follow. Each village has a unique
flavor and so each has been given its own section. I hope you enjoy the pictures.
